Everything You Need to Know About Application Requirements at University of Hamburg

First Academic Degree Required

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. If final results are pending, submit your transcript—conditional enrolment is granted until the degree certificate is submitted (by end of first semester). 

Language Skills

 

For German or bilingual programmes, proof of German proficiency is required (unless you completed your prior degree in German in a German-speaking institution).

For English-taught master’s programmes, German proficiency is not required, but English CEFR B2 or equivalent (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL) is mandatory.

 

Program-Specific Admission Procedures

Many master’s programs have additional requirements such as minimum GPA, work experience, motivation letter, recommendation letters, interviews, or portfolio submissions. Places in oversubscribed programs may be allocated based on academic merit and standardized criteria.

Deadlines & Application Platform

Applications are submitted online via the STiNE portal during specified application windows (e.g.?15?Feb–31?Mar for winter semester intake). Applications after deadlines are not considered. Enrollment occurs between late May and early June.
