University of Lausanne Background History

The University of Lausanne is a public university. It was established in 1537 as a school of theology, before being made a university in 1890. The university is located in Switzerland, and the main campus is presently situated outside the city of Lausanne, on the shores of Lake Léman, in Dorigny. It is adjacent to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and is served by the Lausanne Metro Line. 

University of Lausanne Programs Courses and Schools

The University of Lausanne is composed of seven faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Biology and Medicine, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Geosciences and Environment, Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration (including the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies. The university also comprises schools and different sections, including but not limited to: School of Criminal Justice (ESC), School of French as a Foreign Language (EFLE), French summer and winter courses, Science-Society Interface, and many more. The university has more than twenty associated institutes and centres, some of them are: International Institute for Management Development, Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe, Swiss Institute of Comparative Law, Center for Biomedical Imaging, Centre for Advanced Modeling Science, Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece, and many more. 

The University of Lausanne has more than 13,500 Students which include 8,066 Undergraduate students, 1,370 Graduate students, and 1,583 Doctoral students. The university has more than 3,700 Faculty members. 

University of Lausanne USP

The University of Lausanne provides scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The University of Lausanne and the EPFL share an active sports centre located on the campus, on the shores of Lake Geneva and their campus is also equipped with a bicycle sharing system. The university library also serves as eating hall and is centrally located. The view from the library across the sports fields to the lake of Geneva and the French and Swiss Alps.

1. UNIL Masters Grants in Switzerland for Foreign Students

The University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers the UNIL Master’s Grants on a competitive basis to international students who seek to pursue a Masters Degree at the University.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

• Candidates should have obtained a foreign university degree considered equivalent to a bachelor at UNIL prior to the beginning of the master’s program at UNIL.

• Candidates must have distinguished themselves during their studies, especially through particularly excellent academic results.

• One must achieve a language level of at least B2 (according to the European Language Portfolio global scale) in French or English according to the language in which their chosen masters are taught.

• Not to have been previously registered with UNIL.

• One must have paid the CHF 200.00 administration fee.
