The University of Lodz is known as a #HumanUniversity — a dynamically changing community where people are valued most and where people are considered more important than processes. The university operates on the principles of relationships, cooperation and openness, respects diversity and builds an inclusive academic environment where students, doctoral students and employees can develop their potential. It is also a member of the UNIC European University alliance of post-industrial cities.
Admission for degree studies at the University of Lodz starts on 7th May each year, and the deadline to apply is 13th July. The university does not offer mid-term intake (no February intake), and the next academic year starts on 1st October 2026. The academic campus of the University of Lodz is known in Łódź as Lumumbowo, named after Lumumby Street where the first dormitories were located. The campus is situated at the tram terminal, from which students can easily reach the main university buildings in the city, and some faculties are located in the direct neighbourhood of the dormitories. The dormitories offer over 1,800 double rooms, 10 triple rooms and 61 single rooms, including 11 rooms specially adapted for persons with mobility impairments, with priority given to full-time students whose daily commute would significantly hinder their studies.
For the 2025/2026 academic year, the monthly fee for a place in a single room ranges from PLN 660 (Dormitory XIII) to PLN 990 (Dormitories V, VII, VIII and IX). For a double room, the monthly fee ranges from PLN 500 (Dormitory XIII) to PLN 755 (Dormitories V, VII, VIII and IX), and for a triple room the fee ranges from PLN 500 (Dormitory XIII) to PLN 565 (Dormitory II). A deposit equivalent to two months' fee for a place in a double or triple room in the respective dormitory is required.
After completing studies, international graduates can apply for a temporary residence permit. From 27 April 2026, all residence card applications must be submitted online via the MOS 2.0 system (mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl), and you must provide your University of Lodz email address ([email protected]) to confirm your student status. The application must be submitted no later than two months before the expiry date of your visa or residence card, and the procedure for obtaining a residence card can take up to 1 year or more.
A temporary residence permit granted in connection with conducting scientific research or development works entitles the holder to work without the need to obtain an additional work permit. For international researchers, a promise of employment is issued after acceptance of the application by the Rector of the University of Lodz, which allows the candidate to apply for a visa with the right to work or a research visa — in both cases, a work permit on Polish territory is not required.
