This includes guidance on Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows students to work in their field of study for up to 12 months after completing their degree.

What is OPT and how do I apply?

OPT (Optional Practical Training) is a temporary employment authorization directly related to an F-1 student's major area of study. Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT before and/or after completing their academic program. The application process involves recommendation from the CGE and formal application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Can students in STEM fields get an extension on their work visa?

Yes, students who earn a degree in a designated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field from an accredited institution like UNG may be eligible to apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion OPT, allowing for a total of 36 months of practical training.
