Through its various professional colleges, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center offers a wide range of programs and courses. It consists of the Health Professions Colleges, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Biomedical engineering and imaging, dental science (master's only), epidemiology (master's only), health outcomes and policy research, biomedical sciences (master's only), integrated program in biomedical sciences (PhD), nursing, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology (master's), and speech and hearing science are among the advanced graduate degrees offered by the college.

University of Tennessee Health Science Center's USP/Achievements seeks students who are talented, highly motivated, personally mature, and tolerant of opposing viewpoints. The Plough Center for Sterile Drug Delivery Systems, which celebrated its 53rd anniversary in 2016, is also run by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The center educates on the preparation of sterile products, creates a foundation for parenteral medications, and provides services to the pharmaceutical industry and individuals. The facility also provides hands-on training in aseptic processing four times a year. The College of Pharmacy was ranked 17th among American pharmacy schools by U.S. News & World Report in 2010.

 The main campus of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is located in the Memphis medical district. The main campus of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is home to six colleges (Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy) and over 1,400 residents and fellows.

University of Tennessee Health Science Center Libraries

   The University of Tennessee Health Science Center's Health Sciences Library opened in 1913 with a collection of 400 medical books. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center library has 1004 current periodicals and 1,379,578 books and periodicals volumes. Through its collections, the library offers an extraordinary range of digital and print resources. The UTHSC Health Sciences Historical Collections acquires, catalogs, preserves, and makes research materials documenting the history of UTHSC and its predecessor institutions, as well as materials of historical significance to the health sciences and their practitioners, particularly in Memphis, Tennessee and the Mid-South region, available. Rare and antiquarian books, manuscripts, artifacts, photographs, oral histories, and biographical information on Tennessee physicians are among the collections.

University of Tennessee Health Science Center Housing services

     Various colleges provide housing services at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Hayden Place Apartments in Chattanooga provide limited housing on a space-available basis in 14 two-bedroom, modestly furnished units (just north of the river from downtown Chattanooga). UTHSC (M3) Clerkship students have first priority; M4 UTHSC Geri/Palli or Capstone students have second priority; all other M3 and M4 UTHSC students have third priority. The Hayden Place Apartment complex in Chattanooga is about ten minutes from the hospital. The complex is gated and has full-time leasing staff as well as an on-call courtesy officer. Utilities are included (electricity, water, basic cable TV, and high-speed fiber optic internet via ethernet/wifi). Students should bring their own linens and bedding (including a sleeping bag).

  Part-time employment is allowed at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Full-time employment is permitted during official school breaks and earned leave terms. According to the College, all other students should not work more than 20 hours per week while classes are in session. During academic year breaks when classes are not in session, students may not work more than 40 hours per week.
