CPT is off-campus work authorization for an internship or job that directly relates to your academic field. Unlike OPT, you must have a job offer before you can apply. CPT can be used only before you complete your studies, and you must receive course credit for the experience. You need to submit an application with a letter from your employer and your academic advisor to the Office of International Students at least two weeks before your employment begins.
