Dalian Maritime University was established in the year 1909. It is a public university which is situated in Dalian in People’s Republic of China. It was formed as a part of Shipping Management Section of Nanyang Institute and after the amalgamation of three maritime institutions in 1953. It was started as Dalian Marine College.

Dalian Maritime University was officially founded in 1953 through the merger of Shanghai Nautical College, Northeast Navigation College, and Fujian Navigation School.
The institution was renamed Dalian Maritime University in 1994, following years of development and expansion.
The university was originally called Dalian Marine College and was the only maritime college in China at that time.
