Academic Core High School Coursework

Applicants must complete required high school units:

English (4 units, including substantial composition)

Mathematics (Algebra 1 level and above, 4 units)

Natural Science (2 with lab)

Social Science (3 units)

Foreign Language (2 units of the same language)

Academic Electives (2 units) 

High School GPA

A recalculated GPA based on academic core high school courses. The middle 50% for admitted freshmen is roughly 3.68-4.31

Standardized Test Scores

FAU requires ACT, SAT, or CLT for freshman applicants under FL Board of Governors regulation. Score ranges for admitted students are approx SAT 1090-1280, ACT 22-27, CLT 72-90 for test-takers.

Complete FAU’s online application and pay the non-refundable fee (e.g. ~$30). 

Submission of Transcripts

High school transcript (or STARS self-reported transcript for first-year students). Official transcripts required at later stages. 

Residency / Citizenship / International Status

International students or home-school applicants must provide equivalent credentials, report test scores, and meet standards of English proficiency if required. 

Credit-by-Exam / AP / IB / Dual Enrollment

Credits from Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual enrollment or CLEP may be evaluated for admission or credit. Honors / AP / IB courses receive additional weight. 

Minimum Units Required

Applicants must have completed at least 18 units of high school study in the categories listed above. 

Transfer Students Requirements

For transfer admission: minimum cumulative GPA (often ~2.5 or higher), good academic standing, completion of required general education or core prerequisites, especially for certain majors. 

Major / Program-Specific Requirements

Some programs (e.g. STEM, Nursing, Engineering) have additional prerequisites (specific math/science courses), higher GPA requirements, or limited admission slots.
