Motivated by the teachings of Saint Guru Ghasidas, the university is committed to social empowerment, particularly of the weaker sections, through quality higher education and training. Its mission focuses on providing greater access to inclusive quality higher education, promoting academic excellence, offering equitable educational programs, promoting innovation in teaching and research, extensive use of technology-enabled learning, creating well-rounded global citizens, inculcating entrepreneurship and life skills, increasing efficiency in governance, and working in collaboration with national and international institutions.

The university is located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, spread over approximately 655 acres. The campus is located 5 km from the main town and is adorned with gardens, meadows, ponds, and ornamental trees following a bio-aesthetic plan. The campus includes an Academic Complex, a Computer Centre, separate hostels for boys and girls, an Administrative wing, a Guest House, the Forestry complex, staff quarters, and the V.C. Lodge. The campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled and provides amenities such as a central library, cafeteria, bank facilities, bus services, and a post office.

The university provides six hostels, three each for boys and girls separately, accommodating approximately 800 boys and 800 girls. Hostels are supervised by faculty members as Wardens. Facilities include purified drinking water, nutritious and hygienic mess, high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, recreation rooms, 24x7 security, and clean washrooms. Specific hostels like Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Boy's Hostel accommodates up to 200 students and Rajmohini Devi Girls Hostel accommodates up to 400 students. Hostel fee is Rs. 12,000 (Rs. 10,000 yearly + Rs. 2,000 refundable caution money).

The Central Placement Cell (C.P.C) of the university endeavors to facilitate and provide suitable placement in reputed multinationals, government organizations, NGOs, and the private sector. All students are entitled to placement assistance, need-based training, and counseling for employment. The CPC has modern infrastructure including an air-conditioned seminar hall, interview rooms, and a state-of-the-art auditorium. The Alumni Cell also provides career guidance, access to internships, job referrals, and recruitment opportunities.

The university has a policy of admission for Foreign Nationals, which is attached separately in the admission guidelines. The Central Placement Cell provides placement assistance and career counseling to all students, including international students.
