Once accepted, you receive an admission letter plus a forms JW201 or JW202 from the university. You must apply for the X1 (long-term) visa at a Chinese embassy/consulate in your home country. The school does not apply directly for your visa—you apply in person with those documents, passport, photos, health report, and police clearance. After entering China, you register your residence and convert the X1 visa into a residence permit within 30 days
International students with an X1 visa and residence permit are not permitted to work legally off-campus or hold employment without a proper work visa. Any unpaid internships or voluntary roles may be subject to university approval, but working to fund living costs is prohibited and can lead to visa revocation and deportation.
