Life at JMC is about belonging to a community of creative thinkers and makers, where students work with other passionate students, build lifelong friendships, and take part in performances, showcases, and festivals that celebrate what they create. Creative collaboration is central to the experience – audio students mix sound for film projects, actors provide voiceovers for animation, filmmakers direct music videos for emerging artists, and designers shape branding for entertainment projects.

Your portfolio is your opportunity to showcase your creativity and passion – it should include 5–10 pieces of work, which can be personal projects or school assignments, in any medium such as drawings, paintings, photography, design work, stories, or more. You can submit your portfolio digitally or in hard copy. Students required to perform an audition will receive feedback on the day and in most cases, your audition can be scheduled alongside a course.

JMC Academy has three advanced-design campuses located in the heart of Australia’s major cities: Sydney (Ultimo, just a 10-minute walk from Central Station), Melbourne (South Melbourne, a short tram ride from Flinders Street), and Brisbane (South Brisbane, a short walk from South Brisbane Station). Each campus is close to iconic arts and culture hubs.

Accommodation for students is not available on campus. However, suitable accommodation options that are close to the campus are available for international students, including homestays, student accommodation, serviced apartments, rental and shared housing. Students can explore the Relocation Hub for information about accommodation, moving, and student life.

Graduates with a JMC Academy Bachelor or Masters Degree will be eligible to apply for an Australian two-year post-degree work visa if their period of study was at least two academic years (92 weeks). This means that JMC students undertaking the trimester program may attain a work visa after just two years of study in Australia.

The Australian government allows international students to be employed for up to 20 hours per week. However, in order to manage your study load, JMC Academy recommends work of up to 16 hours per week only.
