The university has completed financing for infrastructure upgrades to net $71 million in savings, with work spanning the 41-building campus. Upgrades include new roofing, lighting, upgraded HVAC systems, expanding keyless entry, and enhancing instructional facilities, all completed by winter 2020. The LSSU Campus Housing Corporation was formed in 2019 to oversee the planning, development, and management of the P3 Housing Project designed to update existing and build new campus housing facilities. Johnson Controls International has been a partner for over 30 years, with a $23.6 million project for campus-wide upgrades to the school's buildings.
Student life at LSSU is vibrant with over 60 student clubs and organizations available. Whether students live on-campus or commute, they are encouraged to be active members of the campus community. The university offers clubs in academic, club sports, arts, social fraternity and sorority, outdoor, honors and professional, faith-based, special interest, and student assembly categories. University Recreation provides wellness and healthy lifestyle oriented programs, events, and services. Social Justice and Community Activism programs inspire the student body to create social change through lifelong participation in volunteer programs and civic engagement.


LSSU provides career support to all students through the Career Services office located in the KJS Library. The Career Resource Center in LIB 231 is an intimate library setting for reading and utilizing computers for career research. Seamore's Closet, located in LIB 254, provides LSSU students with access to professional business attire and advice on dressing for success. The Soo Co-op Credit Union Career Services Resource Center supports career services at the college through an endowment. The university offers employment services for students and placement services for completers. Academic and career counseling services are available, and students can schedule face-to-face or virtual appointments. Interviews and interview preparation support is also provided.
The below information is required while
completing the university application :
1. Complete the LSSU General Education Requirements.
2. Earn a minimum of 124 credits (at the 100 level or higher) for graduation.
3. Achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.
4. Achieve a GPA of 2.00 or higher in the major.
5. For Bachelor of Arts: complete one year (8 credits) of a foreign language.
6. For Bachelor of Science: complete 8 credit hours of social or natural science or mathematics.
7. At least 24 major credits must be at the 300/400 level.
9. Honors graduates must earn at least 32 credits at Lake Superior State University.

LSSU provides academic and career counseling services, employment services for students, and placement services for completers. The Career Services office, located in the KJS Library, supports all students with interviews and interview preparation, career research through the Career Resource Center, and professional attire through Seamore's Closet which provides access to professional business attire and advice on dressing for success. The university also hosts campus tours Monday through Friday at 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:30 PM, giving prospective students the opportunity to meet with admissions representatives and current students. LSSU maintains articulation agreements with nearby institutions including Bay Mills Community College and Sault College.





Lake Superior State won the 2025-26 GLIAC SAAC Community Service Championship, marking LSSU's first championship in the competition, which began in the 2023-24 academic year.
Lake Superior State University announced a recurring $1.5 million commitment for Laker Division I Men's Ice Hockey, demonstrating the university's investment in athletic excellence.
On March 19, 2021, the Lake Superior State hockey program recorded its 1,000th all-time win with a 4-1 victory over the Bemidji State Beavers in the WCHA Semifinals.
Team KRO incorporated new features into LSSU's 4-robot ULKA line, including newly implemented safety devices and integration of advanced ULKA robotics software.
Team IRC (Integration of Rotary Cohots) transformed the LSSU Robotics Lab by integrating four new FANUC CRX collaborative robots into a fully revamped rotary line, incorporating advanced vision systems.
Team AMORE (Autonomous Maritime Operations and Robotics Engineering) built an Autonomous Maritime System composed of a 16-foot Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel (WAM-V) unmanned surface vehicle and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)/drone to compete in the Maritime RobotX Challenge and conduct autonomous water quality monitoring.
Team SSS (Superior Superior Systems) developed multiple ice hockey shooting systems to track the power and accuracy of each shot, with testing conducted for the Soo Locks Children's Museum and LSSU community.
