LSSU offers comprehensive student support through Laker Success services that work to develop skills, make connections, and empower students to achieve success. The Academic Success Center inside the library includes free tutoring, a Math Center, and a Writing Center. Accessibility Services, Career Services, and Testing Services are also located in the library. The university provides academic and career counseling, employment services, and placement services. For students who need academic support, residence hall and commuter Success Coaches are available. The Student Service Center assists with account questions and financial matters.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

On-campus housing at LSSU offers a community where students can live, learn, and thrive. Housing options include Brady Hall and Osborn Hall with regular room (double, triple, and quad occupancy) and private room rates, as well as the Student Village, Townhouses, Living Learning Communities, and Apartments. All rooms are furnished with twin extra long beds (36"x80"). Students in the Student Village, Townhouses, Living Learning Communities, and Apartments have access to all seven meal plan options. Freshmen are usually accorded priority in residence hall assignments while upperclassmen hold priority in apartment assignments. Students who live with parents within a 60-mile radius or the three-county service area of Luce, Chippewa, and Mackinac may apply for an exemption from the on-campus housing requirement.

Student Safety

The LSSU Public Safety Department is located in the Administration Building, with officers on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The department can be reached at 1-906-635-2100 or via email at [email protected]. Twenty-four hour phone service is available by dialing 906-635-2100 from off campus and 2100 from on campus. In case of immediate threat, community members should call 911 (9-911 from campus phone). The university maintains a campus alert system with emergency text messages, and the C.A.R.E. Team responds to incidents posing imminent risk of harm. All on-campus student housing facilities have smoke detectors in each student room and common areas. Weapons must be registered immediately with the Public Safety Office. The university has implemented the Four Pillars of Laker Safety emphasizing personal and social responsibility.

LSSU provides career support to all students through the Career Services office located in the KJS Library. The Career Resource Center in LIB 231 is an intimate library setting for reading and utilizing computers for career research. Seamore's Closet, located in LIB 254, provides LSSU students with access to professional business attire and advice on dressing for success. The Soo Co-op Credit Union Career Services Resource Center supports career services at the college through an endowment. The university offers employment services for students and placement services for completers. Academic and career counseling services are available, and students can schedule face-to-face or virtual appointments. Interviews and interview preparation support is also provided.
