A high school degree, a strong academic record in STEM disciplines (often a GPA of 3.2+), and a required level of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL iBT 90+) are all requirements for MBZUAI's international undergraduate applicants. A CV, passport, and a portfolio of programming and AI projects are required for applications, while they are not required.

Jais, a project headed by Core42 (a G42 firm) in collaboration with MBZUAI and Cerebras Systems, takes its name from the highest mountain in the United Arab Emirates. Beyond Jais, MBZUAI continues to promote green LLMs, underrepresented languages, and complete transparency to decentralize LLM training and development through its Institution of Foundational Models (IMF) and LLM360 framework, a collaborative effort with Petuum and Cerebras Systems.

Based on comparatively little input samples, an MBZUAI team created a computer vision solution that can replicate distinct handwriting styles. The method, for which the institution received its first US patent, offers a variety of possible uses, such as helping those who are unable to write and improving robots' comprehension and transcription of handwritten script into digital text. The invention demonstrates the university's dedication to converting cutting-edge research into innovation and is one of 20 that MBZUAI teachers and students now have registered with international patent agencies.
