Student Support

Satbayev University provides comprehensive student support through various departments and services. The Department for Student Affairs handles student-related matters, with contact available at [email protected] and offices in the Mining-metallurgical building. The Social Work Division offers social support, including one-time cash allowances, compensation for meals, purchase of clothes and shoes, and benefits for living in dormitories. Students can also count on the support of the Student Ombudsman of Almaty city, an independent representative who protects the rights and interests of students in the educational process, infrastructure, and dormitories, and is able to influence decisions and help create more comfortable conditions. The university also provides the Microsoft 365 cloud platform as the main auxiliary tool for the online educational process, with personal corporate mail and workspace provided for students and teaching staff.

Student Life

Student life at Satbayev University is vibrant and dynamic, centered around Lystra (formerly TheHub), which has grown from a small student community into a major hub for technological and creative development since its foundation in 2020. Over the past five years, the community has organized dozens of educational events, live streams, meetups, competitions, and creative projects, and has become the organizer of the country's largest student GameJam festivals. Notable events include Retro GameJam SU 2021, Mythical Game Jam SU 2022 (with over 150 participants), NOMAD Game Jam 2024, PUNKVERSE Game Jam SU 2025 (with over 250 participants and a prize fund of approximately 3,000,000 KZT), as well as large-scale meetups, orientation sessions, and celebratory events. The community also organizes educational meetings and workshops on topics such as "Professions in IT," no-code platforms, Figma, and Python programming, and participates in hackathons like HackNu25 where members won 2nd place in the ML track.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

Satbayev University provides housing facilities for its students through dormitories. The Dos-Mukasan dormitory with 200 beds was opened as a step in evolving the university's student infrastructure. The university is planning to build new contemporary campuses and dormitories, including a 9-story dormitory with 955 beds, with construction planned to start and students expected to be able to move in by 2026. A larger project for a new student dormitory accommodating 5,900 students is also being implemented in Almaty with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The cost of living in the dormitory is 20,000 tenge per month, and applications for dormitory placement are submitted online through the dormitory.satbayev.university website. The university is also planning to build a dormitory with 160 beds on the site of Technopark on campus as part of the "Five Social Initiatives" program.

Student Safety

Satbayev University actively addresses student safety through various initiatives and programs. The university has held lectures with the participation of Almaty city police department representatives dedicated to responsible attitude towards personal and digital security and the current threats faced by young people today. Police representatives spoke about the fight against drug crimes, emphasizing the danger of drugs. The university is actively developing the field of civil protection, has a specialized study room and a logistical base for conducting training, with special attention paid to improving the safety culture among young people. The "ABC of Safety" program unites the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Department of Emergency Situations, and students of Satbayev University. The university also hosts cybersecurity competitions such as SUCTF-2025 with the support of Kaspi.kz.
