Southeastern Louisiana University was established in 1925 as Hammond Junior College. It is a public university situated in Hammond, Louisiana. Its name changed to Southeastern Louisiana College in 1928, and it finally gained recognition as Southeastern Louisiana University in 1970.

Applicants must submit high school transcripts, complete a college-preparatory curriculum, and meet minimum academic metrics (GPA, coursework).  Standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) are used but Southeastern is relatively open in admissions.  International undergraduates must also satisfy English proficiency requirements.

For graduate admission, Southeastern requires minimum TOEFL 550 (paper) / 79 (internet) or IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 100.  For MBA programs, slightly adjusted TOEFL/IELTS scores may apply (e.g. IELTS 6.0).  All transcripts must be in English or translated and evaluated if issued in other languages.
