The importance of English in pursuing higher education abroad

Posted on: August 27, 2022

When you think about studying abroad you think of all the good experiences and memories that you will get to make. But it is not only about the good things that you will get to see. You must also consider the setbacks that you might be facing once you go abroad for your education. One of the biggest and the most common problems encountered by students on a mass level is not being able to communicate with the people there. This is the very reason why most of us choose English-speaking countries as English is one language that is taught to us since my childhood. But even then a lot of people have this hesitation about speaking and expressing themselves completely in English. Many people have this issue of not being able to convey what they are thinking in English though they understand what is being said to them in English. Another new thing that you will learn is that the type of English that you use on a daily basis or in conversations is very different from the type of English that you will be using in your university and other things related to your university. This is known as ‘Academic English. This form of English is more grammatically correct and formal. Here are some tips that will help you improve your Academic English-

  • Try to read as many books in English as you can. The language used in books is mostly grammatically correct and formal.
  • Become an active listener and try to catch how your professor speaks in the university. This way you will not only learn the language but also the one that your professor prefers.

Myths about studying a business degree that you will encounter

Posted on: August 25, 2022

Studying for a business degree as your master's major has become a bandwagon trend these days. Irrespective of what majors you had in your bachelor's degree, many people go on pursuing a master's degree in business because they think that it will provide them with a much-needed acceleration in their careers. But here are some myths that you will hear about a business degree-

  • Most people say that a business degree is too general hence you need to have some specialization like finance, human resource, marketing et cetera in it. Whereas the truth is that a degree is just a stepping stone and it cannot promise to impart all the needed skills at once. It is something that you will learn over a period of time.
  • Many people perceive that a business degree is very easy compared to other courses like medical and engineering. But one must know that business is a very dynamic field where things change within short excerpts of time and hence one needs to be very spontaneous. Businessmen encounter a different set of problems every day which is why their problem-solving is better than most other people in the world.
  • Another myth about this field is that it is highly competitive and replacive. The truth is that these days every field is competitive and survival is based on your performance. If you are working well and being honest with whatever task has been given to you then you don't really have to worry about anything.
  • This one is a very rampant myth that most people believe is true. It is generally believed that students studying business have to be really good with maths and especially in things like trigonometry, calculus, permutation and combination, and other higher level maths. The truth is that students studying a business degree hardly deal with these topics and rather study simpler and practical aspects of maths like accounting, inventory management, marketing, sales forecasting, and financial analysis.

A lot of students of different ages experience concentration-related issues. Not being able to concentrate while studying and getting distracted easily is a very rampant problem and you shouldn't feel different for going through it. But this problem should be solved as soon as one recognizes it because it reduces the efficiency of a student. You may be giving more than sufficient hours to studies on a daily basis but it still would not be enough if you're having concentration-related problems. Here are some ways you can improve your attention span-

  • The first and foremost thing is to keep yourself physically away from any form of visual distraction like your cell phone, television, and any other related things. It's quite obvious that a person will get distracted as soon as he or she sees something amusing.
  • Make sure that you are studying in a different room all by yourself where there is no extra noise. It is scientifically proven that it becomes a lot harder to concentrate and memorize something in the company of some perpetual noise or sound.
  • Study in a location where you feel comfortable. Discomfort will lead to you changing your position frequently which disrupts the flow of study.
  • Make sure that you are eating something in frequent intervals as your brain can't function well with an empty stomach.

A secret tip that will help you in cracking any job interview that you want

Posted on: August 23, 2022

From our childhood, we are told to work hard as conventionally that is the way to success. But as we grow up, we realize that it's not only hard work that takes a person to be successful. So for the majority of life, we think that it's luck that acts as the major driving force behind someone who is successful as well as someone who is not. But the truth is that someone who truly believes in hard work doesn't really have to be dependent on the charm of luck for their success. It is true that hard work is the major ingredient in the recipe of success but for garnishing, there are some extra skills that you need to learn in order to be successful. GenZ and Millennials know the importance of LinkedIn and how networking helps you in getting closer to your targets. But what most people lack in their set of information regarding getting jobs is that networking is not just limited to the virtual world but also is very much prevalent in practical life as well. In order to get the internships of your choice and crack any job interview that you desire you must learn how to initiate small talks and how to become a persuasive speaker. Some people may call it sycophancy but in reality, it really works for everyone. Just relying on your academic records and relentlessly obtaining piles of degrees will not get you the job that you want. You must learn how to ask for it and talk about it. By doing so, even though you might have lesser skills than most people competing with you, still you will be able to get the job. A lot of students and professionals have vouched for this technique. Make sure that you have professional body language and answer with patience in every situation. You might also have to carry a fake smile on your face every time but if it makes you money and gets you the job that you've been dreaming about then it's worth it in the end.
