73 universities from 21 different European countries to participate in the European Higher Education virtual fair

The eighth edition of the European higher education virtual fair will be organised on 23rd and 24th November. This year 73 different universities from 21 European countries like Denmark, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Italy, Ireland, and Lithuania et cetera are participating. Out of these 73 universities, 14 universities feature in the top hundred global university lists.

80,000 students from India chose to study in Europe in countries in 2022-2023. The purpose of this education fair is to make Indian students aware about the possible benefits of studying in Europe and the different universities they have as options. The fair will be organised on a digital platform like every year.

 

Increase in the number of students applying for a US student visa is a consequence of record number of F1 visas being issued

Indian students going to the US for higher education has increased by 35% in the previous year. As per the Open Doors report 2023, an Indian student cohort is the second largest international student group in the US after China. One of the major reasons behind the interest of so many students studying abroad is the record number of F1 visas that were issued to international students. 

Although China retained its position in the US being the largest group of international students with more than 2,82,000 students still studying in the US, there has been a -0.2% decline in the number of Chinese students going to the US. There has been a special growth in the number of students pursuing masters degrees in the US with more than 40% of calculated increase.

 

University of Cambridge invites students for PhD scholarships

University of Cambridge's Office of the School of Humanities and Arts is inviting candidates to apply for PhD scholarships that are being offered to all international students. Candidates have a deadline to apply for the scholarship by 5th December, 2023. The scholarship will be eligible for students pursuing research in disciplines like theoretical and applied sciences language, medieval language and linguistics and many more.

Selected students will be studying the contemporary gap between the modern day education in the use of different languages. Students will get an annual stipend of £18,500 plus £550 CDA annually. Also any gap between the tuition fees for international students and native students will be covered by the university for these selected students.

 

Student visas for Indian students by Canada arrive on time despite the political fall off between the countries

Despite the ongoing political tensions between India and Canada, the student visas of Indian students from Canada are surprisingly arriving at time. Multiple students are getting their visas in between 10 to 13 days of the visa application process. There has been a 90% success rate among Indian students applying for a Canadian study cisa recently. Even students with IELTS bands below 4.5 are getting their student visas on time without any problem.

Although Canada withdrew its 41 diplomats from India, it seems like the visa application process has not been delayed. Students were constantly worried about the coming January intake and how they would be able to start their classes. But surprisingly Canada is showing full support to students and granting student visas on time.

 

IIT JAM 2024 correction application window to start from 24th November 2023

The Indian Institute of Madras will be organising the Joint Admission Test for Masters for the year 2024. The registration process for the same has already started. And now all the students who want to make corrections in their application will be able to do so from 24th November, 2023. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on 11th February, 2024. 

The answer key for the same is expected to be released by 22nd March, 2024 soon after which the result will also be released. IIT JAM is the exam that is organised by all the IITs of India to give admission to students in the Masters program. It is one of the most competitive exams in the country and thousands of students take this exam annually.

IIT Madras introduces the dual MD PhD programme

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education And Research. Under the collaboration both these institutes will offer a dual degree of MD PhD to students. The post graduate degree will be offered by SRIHER and the phD degree will be offered by the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology of IIT Madras.

The objective of the programme is to develop well trained scientists in India who will lead India's research department in the coming years. Recently, India has been witnessing a lot of brain drain and one of the potential reasons is the limited number of courses offered by institutes in the country. Post graduate students who have been admitted to SRIHER can apply for the PhD degree from IIT Madras in the second year of their program.

 

Canada implements automatic visa processing to fasten the work visa process

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada has released a new automatic tool that will process the work visa applications for Canada faster. The tool's speciality is that it identifies the streamline processes that have to be followed in the process of visa application. After analysing the application itself, transfers the application to a Visa Officer. The good part is that the tool is not given the authority of rejecting any application. Only a Visa Officer can reject an application.

IRCC wants to deploy more such automated tools in the coming future to make the process of visa application easier for both the immigration officials and the people applying for the visa.

 

Students in Mizoram perform on stage protest demanding scholarship money

Hundreds of students in Mizoram and performing a stage protest demanding the distribution of the promised scholarship money by the state government. As per reports 19,000 students were promised scholarship money by the state government of Mizoram. Till now none of the students have received any financial help from the government. The government has already received. 

This is Rs.17.85 crores funds to distribute the scholarship money. However, officials have not yet taken the appropriate steps to distribute the money among selected students. The officials however, are saying that the process was disrupted because of the poll elections taking place in Mizoram. Immediate distribution will happen after the elections are completed successfully.

 

The Australian government proposes a law to punish immigrants who breach visa conditions

Schengen Visa to go paperless soon

The Schengen Visa that was established back in 1995 allows paper free travel in the 23 European countries. For those planning to migrate to Europe for study or work purposes, getting a Schengen Visa is the best option. Now the European Council has decided to make the whole process of applying for Schengen Visa paperless. This means that you will no longer be required to visit the immigration department of Europe or a particular European country to get a visa. You can simply go on the official portal of the European Council to apply for a visa.

There you can submit your documents and fill in your personal details. Your application will be reviewed on the basis of your documents. If you are selected then you will be shortlisted for an interview round. The new process has been approved by the council, but it will take some time for it to be implemented. There is a lot of technical work that has to be done before making the portal live.

This process will simplify the paperwork for immigration and will most likely boost tourism and migration in Europe.

More than 12000 students in Himachal Pradesh do not get their SC scholarships

More than 12,000 students in Himachal Pradesh did not get their post and pre-matric SC scholarships because of incomplete documents. The students did not receive the scholarship amount primarily because their accounts were not linked to their Aadhaar cards. The directorate of higher education has now contacted the concerned schools of students to do the needful. The payment of the scholarships are done through the direct benefit transfer system under which having an account linked with an Aadhaar card is mandatory. More than 7000 students have not received their pre-matric scholarships and 4700 students have not received their post-matric scholarships because of this very reason. now the government of Himachal Pradesh is taking strict measures to make sure all students submit the documents on time and correctly.

1 out of 4 international students in the US is from India

As per the recent data, it has been found that more than 50% of the international students currently studying in the US are from India and China combined. As per the open doors report 2023, international students in the US cross the 1 million mark for the first time post pandemic. The US has finally reached its pre-pandemic number of international students and it seems like everything is getting back to normal. Two new paper combinations announce for the GATE exam 2024

The Indian Institute of science which is responsible for organising the GATE exam 2024 has announced two new paper combinations for interested students. Candidates who had already applied for the paper have the option of changing their paper combinations by 17th November, 2023. The GATE 2024 exam will be organised on 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th February. The modification window will be open from 18th November to 24th November. During this period, candidates will be able to change any wrong personal details that they have filled by mistake. A fee of Rs.500, will be charged to change sections like name, examination, city, gender or date of birth. The GATE admit cards are likely to be released by the first week of January. The GATE exam is a three hours long exam and consists of 65 questions.

35 percent Jump In The Number Of Indian Students Going To The US For Higher Education

There has been a 35% increase in the number of international students from India going to the US for higher education. Overall the number of international students who went to the US have increased by 12% in the past one year. China is still the largest contributor of international students to the US. There has been a significant decrease in the number of international students going to the US from China post pandemic. America's graduate program still remains the topmost attraction for international students. There has been a 21% increase in the graduate enrolment in the US whereas for undergraduate enrolment, there has been only 1% increase.

The total number of international students going to the US for higher education has come back to the pre-pandemic era with the mark touching 1.1 million students annually.
