Indian skilled workers students and medical practitioners dominate the US Visa list

As per the latest data collected by the office for national statistics, Indian skilled workers, students and medical practitioners dominate the US Visa list. Indians not only topped in the student visa category but also in the skilled workers and medical practitioner category as well. Skilled worker category saw a modest 9% increase from the previous year. On the other hand, the skilled worker health category saw a massive jump of 135% visas being issued as compared to last year.

More than 1,33,000 sponsored visas were granted to Indian citizens by the end of September, 2023. There has been a 5% increase in the number of sponsored visas issued to Indian citizens as compared to last year.

 

SBI launches Asha Scholarship 2023 to empower economically backward students

The State Bank of India foundation has made a decision to introduce the Asha Scholarship Program 2023 to support the economically backward students of India. This is a part of SBI’s Integrated Learning Mission. Under the ILM, meritorious students from financially weaker backgrounds are selected by SBI to offer financial assistance.

Students from class 6th to 12th are eligible for the scholarship. It is important for the candidate to have at least 75% marks in their last passed class. Students from mostly all states of India can apply for this scholarship. To be eligible, the family income of the student must be less than Rs.3 lakhs per annum.

External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar describes the resumption of Canada E visa as a logical consequence

In a recent interview, External Affairs Minister of India Mr S Jaishankar has described the resumption of Canada E visa as a logical consequence of the better political situation between the two countries. The resumption of E visa services for Canadian citizens means that the citizens of Canada can travel to India for business, medical and diplomatic purposes. This has been one of the major improvements since September 21. 

Canada had already resumed its visa services for Indian citizens and most Indian students were able to get their student visas on time. But the only apprehension among Indian students going to Canada for higher education was the inability to come back to their country. Looking at the situation currently, it seems like now Indian students can go to Canada for higher education without any worries.

 

Class 12th students without biology will be able to appear for NEET 2024

The National Medical Council board has made a landmark decision for the NEET 2024. By increasing the flexibility of the exam, NMC has decided that students with a non-biology background in their class 11th and 12th will be allowed to take the test. This will be applicable for students both in India and abroad. This decision will also be applicable on the previously rejected applications because of the same reason. This is a very significant decision and a massive change from the conventional eligibility criteria that NEET has followed for many years. This decision of NMC alliegns with the New Education Policy. NEP adapts a more inclusive approach towards education and allows students to have more flexibility. No the number of opportunities for students in terms of a potential career will be more.

India gives foreign universities the permission to set campuses in India

UGC has released the guidelines for foreign universities that want to open campuses in India. All of these guidelines are in alignment with the NEP. Here are some important guidelines for foreign universities that want to open campuses in India.

  1. The university should be among the top 500 global universities in the overall ranking system.
  2. Any university that is among the top 500 global universities under the subject wise ranking must be outstanding in the particular field.
  3. The term global ranking of subject wise ranking has not been properly defined by UGC. It will be determined by UGC while giving these universities the license to operate in India.
  4. These universities should also be authorised to have an overseas campus by the government of their respective country.

Countries offering post study work visa to Indian students

A study work visa allows an international student to stay back in the country after completing their education. The students are allowed to work in the companies or any other work places in the country. Tier two and tier three cities from India show massive contribution towards international education

In 2022 more than 7,50,000 students from India went to foreign countries for higher education. This was a 21% increase in the number of students that went to foreign countries in 2021. More than one third of the students chose to go to the US. Recently, it was found out that one in every four international students in the US is from India. There has been a decline in the number of students preferring to go to Indian premier institutes like IITs and IIMs and are choosing to study in the top universities of foreign countries. 

There has been a massive contribution from the students of tier 2 and tier 3 cities with the total spend on international education crossing $70 billion by Indian households. Most of the students take education loans whereas many also submit their fees by themselves without taking any education loans. Evisa services for Canada resumed by India after a two month hiatus

After a break of around two months, Canada has resumed its E-visa services for Indian citizens. India suspended Visa services to Canada on 21st over a political rift. The resuming of Visa services signifies that it is a positive step towards solving any kind of issues that the two countries are having right now. Canada is still very much the top study abroad destination for Indian students. Indian students who had to go to Canada for the January intake would get their student visas on time. The visas are being processed in 10 to 12 days of submitting the application. But the students were worried about the inability to come back to their country. Now that India has resumed its E visa services for Canada, students are relieved and are confident about going to Canada.

IIT Goa sets a placement record with 99 percent of students getting placed

Despite the global recession and layoffs post pandemic, IIT Goa has been able to achieve 100% placement in computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Overall the placement record of IIT Goa stands at 99%. It is one of the recent IITs in India and is situated in the Ponda area of Goa. In 2016, IIT Goa was established on a temporary campus, after which the institute was shifted to a permanent building.

Initially IIT Goa, only offered 30 seats to students in the field of computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Now IIT Goa offers 150 seats to students in various streams of engineering. there are also some seats for students who want to pursue their MTech from IIT Goa.

 

University College of London announces new scholarship for Indian students

University College of London has recently launched a special scholarship for Indian students called the India excellence scholarships. Under the scholarship hundred of the brightest minds of India will be selected to study in the top universities of the UK. Under this scholarship 33 students will be selected for the academic year 2024 to 2025 and the rest of the 67 scholarships will be given in the coming two years. Students pursuing all kinds of disciplines are allowed to apply for the scholarship.

 If selected students will receive a call Ishika amount of £5000. The University College of London is also planning to open its summer school in India. The campus will be opened at the British School in New Delhi. The inaugural of the UCL summer school is likely to happen in the June month of 2024.

 

Registrations for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Program open for students

Applications for the Commonwealth, shared scholarship program are open for students. This scholarship is offered by the government of the UK and it works under the Commonwealth Scholarship Fellowship Plan. The aim of the scholarship is to attract individuals from different academic backgrounds to the country and give them the opportunity to get a high quality of education. UGC to revise syllabus for NET

The University Grants Commission is planning to revise the syllabus for the National Eligibility Test. This is an important exam for people who are planning to teach in higher education Institutions of India. An expert UGC-NET committee will be formed to look after the syllabus planning of the exam. Interested candidates will be given sufficient time to come in touch with the new syllabus of the exam before giving the exam. The syllabus of UGC NET was revised for the last time in 2017.

Therefore, the commission has decided that it is time to make a significant revision in the battle of the exam. Since 2017, new initiatives in the field of education in India like any have been introduced. To make the syllabus of UGC congruous with other higher level exams, this decision has been made.

 

PG medical board in India announces new guidelines for medical college exams

The Post-Graduation Medical Board of India has released new guidelines for medical universities regarding the conduction of medical college exams. A set of guidelines have been released that are compulsory for medical colleges to follow. All the medical colleges must follow the guidelines by PGMER while conducting exams. One of the most important developments that has been made in the protocol of exams is the introduction of the concept of recording a video. 

The examiner has to record a video and all the information related to the name of the exam, the examiner, the year of the students appearing for the exam and other important details must be mentioned. Also guidelines related to the evaluation process have also been released. Moreover, all the medical colleges have been exempted from any exterior inspection.

 

JEE Advanced 2024 dates released

Indian Institute of technology, Madras has released the exam dates for JEE Advanced 2024. As per the date sheet, the exam will be organised on 26th me in two shifts. The registration for the same will begin on 21st April, 2024 and conclude by 30th April, 2024. candidates will have the option to pay their tuition fees by 6th May, 2024. The registration for the Architecture Aptitude Test will begin on 9th June, 2023. The registration will be concluded on 10th June, 2023. The examination will be conducted on 12th June, 2023.

For the year 2024, Indian Institute of technology, Madras is responsible for organising JEE Mains and JEE Advance. Any further update will be released by IIT Madras.

 

University of Essex is offering Masters scholarship worth £3000

The University of Essex is offering its Academic Excellence Masters Scholarship to international students who have taken admission in the January intake of the university. Scholarships worth £3000 are being offered to students enrolled in different programmes. The deadline to submit an application for the scholarship is 30th November, 2023. Students from all tier 1 and tier II. Colleges of various countries are invited to apply for the scholarship. To be eligible, it is necessary to have received a letter of acceptance from any of the departments of the university. It is also important to have scored at least 60% marks in your bachelors degree. IIM Kashipur receives a four star ratings in the new innovation ranking

The ranking has improved by .5 rating as compared to the previous year where it was given a 3.5 star rating. The government of Assam invites candidates to apply for PG scholarships

The Assam directorate of higher education is inviting students to apply for its PG scholarship. All the students who fulfil the eligibility criteria will be able to apply for the scholarship from 21 November to 5th December. The application of the individuals will be first assessed by the colleges in the universities of awesome before selection. It is important for the candidate to submit the following documents to be eligible for the scholarship.

  1. Mark sheet of the final year of the last qualifying degree
  2. Photograph and signature of the candidate
  3. Copy of Aadhaar
  4. Certificate from the head of the institution with the candidate is currently studying

The US to open more consulates in India to avoid visa delays

The United States of America is aiming to open more consulates in India to make visa facilities more accessible to students. A recent consulate was opened in Hyderabad. Now the US is aiming to open more consulates in cities like Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. The existing staff in the current offices in the different parts of the country will also be increased so that more visa applications are processed on a regular basis. The US Ambassador Eric Garcetti has said that the number of visas being processed in India for the US has increased by 1/3rd in the past two weeks. With the current speed, it is highly likely that there will be a rise in 10% to 15% of visas processed in this year as compared to the previous.

Garcetti also said that the delay in the processing of visa applications is also because of the high number of visa applications from other countries like Brazil and Mexico due to which technical issues keep on arriving now and then.

Rise in the number of Indian students applying for the UK and US student visas

There has been a rise in the number of Indian students applying for UK and US student visas. On the other hand, there has been a decline in the study visa applications for Canada. Although Canada has been processing visa applications on time, students are worried about the possible future problems related to studying in Canada. The two countries have yet not resolved their conflicts. The UK Home Office has also said that there has been a surge in the number of sponsored study Visa applications by Indian students. By the end of June, 2023, there were more than 1,42,000 student visa applications processed.

The United States of America on the other hand has processed more than one million visa applications and more than 95,000 of the successful applications were from India.
