Ajman University was established on 17 June 1988, marking it as the first private university in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). It also attained a pioneering role in the UAE by welcoming expatriate students of all genders from its inception . AU is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Education and all its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA). Applications are submitted online via the AU admissions portal. For undergraduates, a secondary school certificate (attested if from outside UAE) is required; graduates must hold a recognized bachelor’s (or master’s for PhD).
Only the MBBS (Medicine) program requires an entrance exam. Most other programs do not have entrance test requirements.

AU follows a Fall and Spring semester structure, each about 15 weeks, plus one summer term of 6 weeks (often used for internships/practical training).
