Mid Sweden University was founded on 1 July 1993 as a result of the merger of the University College of Sundsvall/Härnösand and the University College of Östersund. It was granted full university status from 1 January 2005 and thus became Mid Sweden University.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised institution, typically at least the Swedish “kandidatexamen” level (180 credits) or equivalent. 

Proof of English language proficiency is required; level and test type depend on the specific programme. 

Specific entry requirements may include prior studies in the relevant subject field (for example, a minimum number of credits in biology for a biology-master).
