Southeastern Louisiana University was established in 1925 as Hammond Junior College. It is a public university situated in Hammond, Louisiana. Its name changed to Southeastern Louisiana College in 1928, and it finally gained recognition as Southeastern Louisiana University in 1970.

Applicants must submit a completed application and required documents by the published deadlines. 

High school transcript showing coursework and grades is required. 

High school coursework expectations: Southeastern requires or recommends a “college preparatory” curriculum (English, math, science, social studies, electives) for degree-seeking students. 

SAT / ACT: Southeastern uses ACT / SAT scores in admissions decisions. 

For freshman applicants, Southeastern is “selective admission”, meaning academic metrics (GPA, coursework rigor, test scores) matter. 

Transfer students:

  • Those with fewer than 18 college credit hours must satisfy the freshman admission criteria. 

  • Those with 18 or more credit hours need a minimum 2.0 GPA on all college-level work. 

  • They must be eligible to return to the last institution they attended. 

Materials required for freshmen include: transcripts, test scores (if taken), proof of immunization, and possibly transcripts for dual enrollment / college credit earned in high school. 

International undergraduate applicants must satisfy English proficiency requirements (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent) unless exempt by prior U.S. education or English as a native language.
