Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to look into the matter of deportation of Indian students

Recently, Indian students have been deported from the US despite having all the documents. Around 21 students were deported  over the issue of forging documents. It has been found that all the documents of the students are authentic and they have a legit study Visa for the US. Now the deportation is delaying their programs. 

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Vyas Jaganmohan Reddy is looking into the matter as most of the students are from Andhra. The Chief Minister has promised that he will sort out the matter with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs. The state government has also asked deported students to be prepared for an interrogation round in case it happens.

830 minority institutions on the scholarship portal found to be fake by the government

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has found that around 830, minority institutions that have registered themselves on the National Scholarship Portal are fake. All of these institutions have received at least Rs.144 crores from the central government in the past few years. This has been found out by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) after long research.The ministry has handed over its reports to the CBI, which will further look into the matter. In the past few years, many institutions have unlawfully registered themselves with the national scholarship portal and have taken funds from the comment for ulterior motives.

ETS opens its testing centre in Kashmir

ETS which is the owner of various tests like IELTS and TOEFL has finally opened its first testing centre in Kashmir after a lot of wait. This has been a step to provide study abroad opportunities to the residents of Kashmir more easily. Since Indian students are becoming more and more inclined towards international education, ETS is now expanding itself by opening new testing centres in various parts of the country. They will be providing English language competency assessments, skill assessments and skill development services to the students in the valley. Previously students from the Valley had to travel to different states like Punjab and Haryana to give the test. Now this will save a lot of time for the students and the services will become more accessible. This is likely to promote even more students to take the test.

The US student visa acceptance rate falls to 65 percent

The US Department of State issued more than 411,000 visas to international students in 2022. This is the highest number for the US since 2010. Many students got the opportunity to travel to the US for higher education, which is one of the most selective countries in the world when it comes to issuing visas. In 2021, the US approved more than 80% of the visa applications but in 2022 this fell by 15%. This means that in 2022 only 65% of the total candidates got their visas approved from the US Department of State. India saw an increase of 43% in the visa acceptance rate and has officially overtaken China. It seems like Indian students have become the first priority for the US. More than 115,000 students from India were offered F1 visas in 2022.

Delhi University releases its first merit list for postgraduate courses

Delhi University has officially released its first merit list for postgraduate courses. Candidates can check the seat allotment through CSAS portal. Candidates can accept the seat allotment and pay for the same till 21st August, 2023. The second merit list will be out on 25th August, 2023. The official schedule for the same has been given by Delhi University on their official website. Students are being given admissions on the basis of their CUET scores. No official merit list has been released as of yet.

UGC issues new guidelines on degrees

The University grants commission has recently prepared new guidelines for the recognition of foreign degrees in India. This will include equal degrees from foreign universities,restricting degrees obtained through distance and online mode as well as through any franchise agreement. UGC has also granted norms related to the schools in India that are affiliated to foreign boards and their recognition in India. These norms have been released because of the recent decision of the Indian government to invite foreign universities to open campuses in India. These norms will lay down a specific criteria for foreign universities and will help students in understanding the authenticity of a degree.

The US to launch new courses for Indian students in alignment with NEP

The US state department has decided to launch new courses specifically for Indian students which will be in alignment with the new education policy. Now Indian students will be able to pursue their one year long Masters degree in the US with an industry specialisation. 

As per now, the courses will be restricted to STEM disciplines. over 20 American universities and 15, Indian universities are set to collaborate on the same and discuss on the strategies to be implemented. Once the student has completed the course, he or she will be allowed to stay in the US for three years. This will offer bilateral help to both the US and India.

DY Patil Medical College which is situated in Navi Mumbai is officially the most expensive college in India to offer MBBS to students. The MBBS degree is offered at Rs.30 lakhs per year. Students also have to pay around Rs.3 lakhs of one time admission fees .This makes the total cost of the degree around Rs.1.5,00,00,000s.

The DY Patil medical College also has a sister College in Pune which charges around the same fees for MBBS degree from students. The DY Patil Medical College is not the only college in the country to charge this high fee for MBBS. There are a lot of other colleges deemed to be universities that charge the equal amount of fees. The SRM College in Chennai charges Rs.22 lakhs per year.

Karnataka to take back the New Education Policy from next year

But now the CM of Karnataka has decided that after facing massive protests from children and parents, the policy will be taken back. The CM has said that since NEP is in its seeding stage, it is too early to comment on anything. IIT Delhi drops one set of mid semester exams to reduce examination pressure

The administration of IIT Delhi has decided to drop one set of mid semester exams to reduce examination pressure among students. Recently so many suicide cases among IIT students has sparked great controversy.

Nearly 10000 students from India studying in China

As per the Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, more than 10,000 students from India are studying in China currently. Around 14,000 international students from India returned from China post pandemic. International students are still hesitant about studying in China because of the recent pandemic. Most of the students are the ones that are completing the last year of their medical College. With the combined effort of the Indian government and the Chinese government, students were able to go back to China to complete their medical degree. The students will have to give the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI).
