IIT Guwahati gets featured in the World University Rankings 2024

IIT Guwahati has been ranked as one of the best universities in the world in the field of data science and petroleum studies. The university has been featured twice in the QS World University rankings by subject. IIT Guwahati has secured a global ranking of 51-70 in data science. for petroleum, the institution has been given a ranking of 51-100. Other subjects like chemistry, biological sciences, environmental studies, economics and econometrics have also seen a significant improvement in the overall rankings. The director of the institution has expressed his gratitude and said that the institute commits towards incessant quality performance and devoting attention towards students.

 

IIT Madras revises registration dates for JEE advance

IIT Madras has revised its dates for registration for JEE advance. The registration process will begin on 27th April and students will be able to register themselves till 7th May. Students will have to pay an application fee of Rs.3200 to register themselves for the exam. Only after receiving the application fee, will the registration be considered successful. It is expected that the institute will release the admit cards by 17th May. The registration fee for female students and for candidates from reserved categories is Rs.1600. The date for the examination has remained the same. The exam will be conducted on 26th May, 2024 in different shifts across the country. Only students who will be able to clear the JEE mains cut-off will be eligible for registering for the JEE advance.

 

69 Indian universities become a part of the QS World University rankings

69 universities from India have become a part of the QS world University rankings, 2024. There has been a 19.4% rise in the entry of Indian universities in 2024 as compared to the previous year. Last year 66 universities were a part of the QS rankings. India is the second largest country in terms of representation after China. 101 universities from China have featured in the rankings. Delhi University has been the most featured University in these rankings with 30 features. This has been followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur. There has been a growth of 16% in India in terms of international network indicators. There has been an improvement of 20% in citations per paper indicator. currently the biggest challenge that Indian universities face is providing quality education to thousands of students every year.

 

The UK government to review the Immigration Graduate route

The Graduation Immigration Route was introduced by the government of the UK in 2021. It allowed international students who came to the country after July, 2021 to stay in the country for two more years after their education had been completed. The GIR who was previously called the post study work visa, which was introduced in 2007. It has now been three years since the GIR was introduced and now the UK government is thinking of reviewing the whole immigration policy. If the UK government decides to discontinue the GIR, then it will be a great deal of problem for international students. The UK is one of the top study abroad destinations for Indian students. Most of the students who visit the UK avail some sort of education loan that is paid back by working in the UK. If the Graduation Immigration route is discontinued, then international students will not get the opportunity to stay back in the country and make money.

Loughborough University is giving away half a million pounds to international students in scholarships

Loughborough University has decided that it will be giving away £500,000 in the form of scholarships to international students in 2024. Most of the scholarships will be given to students who are coming to the university for pursuing a masters degree. The whole program has been named as the Global Impact Scholarship. Under the scholarship, some students will be given a fee waiver of up to hundred percent. The purpose of this initiative is to attract students with high calibre to the university who can show their abilities in the field of research and innovation. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is 30th April, 2024. Students coming in the September intake of 2024 in the university are eligible for the scholarship.

 

CBSE will be launching the pilot national credit framework for classes 6 and 9 and 11

CBSE is all set to launch its pilot programme, National Credit Framework for classes 6, 9, and 11. This is definitely not a compulsory initiative and schools are free to choose whether they want to implement it or not. CBSE has asked interested schools and principals to drop their details through the official email ID of CBSE. Under this programme students will be indulging themselves in a credit based curriculum in which they will be awarded points for being a part of NCC, sports, laboratory projects, plays, and many more. The focus is to transform the classroom-based education to more skill-based and innovation-based teaching. All the earned credits will become a part of the students ABC ID.

 

Jawaharlal Nehru University ranked as the best research university in India

The Jawaharlal Nehru University based in Delhi has been ranked as the best research university in India. As per the QS World University rankings 2023, JNU has been given a worldwide ranking of 20th in development studies. This is followed by IIM Ahemdabad which is also part of the top 25 universities in the world. IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta are also part of the top 50 institutes in the world. There has been a rise of 19% in the number of entries of Indian institutes in these rankings. The overall performance of Indian universities and institutes has soared by 17%.

 

University of Strathclyde is offering a new programme for international students

University of Strathclyde is offering a new program called LLM Law, Technology and Innovation. The programme will revolve around the legal knowledge related to the developing technology. The curriculum of the course has been designed in a way that students will learn about both the legal prospects and the technological prospects of the developing world. The programme consists of six modules that can be completed over a period of one year if it is done on a full-time or regular basis. During the summer students will have to indulge in different projects like internships, research, proposal, summer projects, and many more. Students will have to pay a tuition fee of £21,700. students can also apply for scholarships that can cover up to £4000 of tuition fees if they get selected. 

 

New Zealand to tighten visa rules as migration becomes uncontrollable

New Zealand has announced that it will be making changes in its visa rules as immigration has hit an unexpected mark. For an employee's work visa, the country will be changing the minimum English level requirement and the skill requirement for even unskilled jobs. Candidates will also need to have a minimum experience before they can apply for a work visa for New Zealand. The maximum amount of time an unskilled worker will be able to spend in New Zealand will be 3 years from now on as compared to 5 years previously. Also, New Zealand will be prioritising the natives in the skilled category so that there is no hike in the unemployment rate in the country.

University of Sussex has announced that it will be offering scholarships worth £10,000 to 4 selected Indian students. Other scholarships worth £4000 and £5000 will also be offered to selected international students pursuing a bachelors or a masters program from the university. An additional £2000 will be given to selected students who decide to enrol in the school of engineering or business school of the university. Students can apply for the Chancellor's International Scholarship till 1st May, 2024. For the Sussex India Scholarship, the deadline is 1st September, 2024. Through the scholarships, the university wants to highlight the importance of Indian students in contributing towards the overall international student scenario in the UK.

NCERT make significant changes in the syllabus for class 6th

NCERT which is responsible for the publication of books for classes 1st to 12th in India has made significant changes in the syllabus for class 6th. students will now have the option to choose for vocational subjects from class 6th onwards and also devote time towards other disciplines like art and physical education. New training for teachers, assessment methods and bridge month programmes will be introduced. Along with class 6th, the syllabus for class 3rd will also be modified. This has been done to make the transition from the previous class to the next class easier. As class 6th  is the first step towards middle school, it is important for students to carefully learn how to tackle new subjects on their own. The same thing goes for class 3rd. different courses and guidelines will be released for both these classes.

 

Australias Southern Cross university is offering a scholarship to Indian students

Australia's Southern Cross University is offering a scholarship to Indian students. The scholarship will be known as the Vice Chancellor's  Academic Excellence Scholarship and is going to be available to all Indian undergraduate students and postgraduate students who have enrolled in the Gold Coast campus of the university. Students with high academic performance will be selected for the scholarship. The maximum scholarship given to Indian students will be AU$8000 which is INR 4,00,000. The university offers a diverse range of courses including social work, nursing, engineering, data science, management, and many more.

 

University of Strathclyde is offering a scholarship to Indian Malaysian and Thai students

University of Strathclyde, which is located in Scotland is known for offering a lot of scholarships to international students from time to time. As per the latest reports, the university is now offering a scholarship specifically to Indian, Malaysian, and Thai students. This scholarship will be a part of the Great Scholarship Programme that is a joint effort between the British Council and 49 universities from the UK. All of the universities in collaboration with the British council will be offering different scholarships to international students. Students pursuing a postgraduate degree in engineering from the University of Strathclyde will be given a scholarship of INR 10,00,000. This scholarship is only for master students and it is compulsory for the student to be enrolled in a masters programme at the university. Students can submit their applications till 3rd May, 2024. 

 

CBSE makes it compulsory for class 10th and 12th students to study at least two Indian languages

In a latest notification released by CBSE, the board has said that from now onwards, it will be compulsory for class 10th and 12th students to study two languages. Class 9th and 10th students will have to study one international language as well as two regional languages. This means from now onwards the students of class 9th and 10th will be studying around 10 subjects including three languages. As per the previous curriculum, students of standard 9th and 10th had to study five main subjects along with one vocational subject. 50 hours of project work for every subject has been made necessary. Along with this, 60 hours in each academic year have to be given to disciplines like art and physical sciences. For foreign languages, students can study different kinds of languages like English, French, German, Spanish, and any other language that the school is offering. It will be compulsory for students to pass all these 10 subjects.

 

NTA reopens NEET UG registration window

NTA has decided to reopen the registration window for NEET UG 2024. Interested candidates can now submit their application till 10th April, 2024. Previously the last date to submit the application was 16th March, 2024. However, after receiving constant emails and messages from students around the world, NTA has come to take the decision of extending the registration date. It is important to note for students that this is the last time that the date has been extended, so students must register themselves as soon as they can, before the deadline ends. To register themselves, students have to visit the official website of NEET and click on the registration link for the NEET UG. Students will have to first register themselves and then using the registered ID and password, fill in all the information and pay the registration fee. General students have to pay a registration fee of INR 1600. 

 

UGC bars universities from the right of organising any kind of entrance exams for PhD

The University Grants Commission has taken away the right from universities to organise any kind of entrance exams for PhD. All the universities will have to accept the UGC NET scores to give admission to students in PhD programmes. This decision has not met with acceptance from both universities and students. It is being considered as a threat against the diversity of the country. The registration process for the UGC NET June session has already started. Previously universities were allowed to conduct their entrance exams as well as consider the marks of UGC NET to give admission to students and PhD exams. However, after this decision, both students and universities only have the option of taking the UGC NET exam only. 

 

Jamia Millia Islamia revises the schedule for the free UPSC civil services exam coaching

Jamia Millia Islamia is known to offer free UPSC civil services exam coaching. Every year, the university conducts an exam through which bright students are selected who get the opportunity to prepare for one of the most competitive exams of the country for free of cost. On April 4, the university decided to extend the last date for candidates to submit applications to register for the free coaching. Students now have the time till 19th June, 2024 to fill the application form. Previously, the date of the examination was 1st June which has now been extended to 29th June. The result of the exam will be declared by 20th July, 2024. This will be followed by a series of interviews. The final result will be declared on 14th August, 2024. classes are scheduled to begin on 30th August, 2024.

 

IIT Roorkee is accepting applications for summer internships

IIT Roorkee has started accepting applications for the summer internship program for 2024. Selected students will be getting a stipend of Rs.2500 on a weekly basis. Students pursuing a BTech degree, BE degree and an integrated BSE program are allowed to apply for the internship. Students who have at least one semester remaining for the completion of the degree are eligible for the internship program. The minimum CGPA criteria for students from each and every university is different. Students who are pursuing a degree from any IITs or IISc need to have a minimum CGPA of 7.5. Students from NITs need to have a minimum CGPA of 8 and students from any other institute need to have a minimum CGPA of 8.5.

 

IIM Kashipur launches a new one year degree in hospital management

IIM Kashipur has launched a one-year post graduate programme for medical professionals called PG in hospital management. It is being termed as a one-of-a-kind executive programme that will help medical professionals get into the death of how to run a hospital successfully by taking care of various parameters like the best organisation, resourcefulness, time management and addressing the grievances of patients. The one-year programme will provide a lot of industrial exposure to the enrolled students through the help of case studies and field visits. Students will be also taught about the sales and marketing strategies that need to be applied in the field of healthcare.
