Christopher Newport University History

Christopher Newport University’s history started in the year 1960 and it is named after Christopher Newport. It was started as Christopher Newport College which started welcoming students in the year 1961. In the year 1971, it started its four-year degree programs for its students. The college turned into a university in the year 1992 under the leadership of President Anthony R. Santoro.

The Paul and Rosemary Trible Library is the main campus library of the University that is named after Paul S. Trible Jr. It is spread out over an area of more than 110,000 square feet. The library not only has study spaces but also has a new café, study lounges, and IT help desk support for the students. Recently the library added a two-story reading room, 44 group study rooms, and a 100-seat theatre to the library.
