The university spans a 140 ha campus in Neubiberg (formerly a Luftwaffe air base), offering a unified living, learning, and research environment. Campus buildings include lecture halls, laboratories, testing tracks (using former runways), student housing, dining facilities, a media centre, and a language centre—all within a 15-minute walk of each other. Adjacent industrial partners such as Siemens and Bosch further enhance the ecosystem.
As a campus university, most students—and particularly officer candidates—live in on‑site housing, attending social events organized through dormitory associations, student societies (e.g. Model UN, multicultural clubs), and sports clubs. Wednesdays feature programmed military or language training for officer candidates, with leisure, event and networking opportunities facilitated within the residential community.
UniBw M is strongly linked with industry and governmental careers. Through its robust external partnerships, students gain access to internships and employment opportunities, especially via defence and aerospace sectors. Additionally, internal units such as the International Office and Career & Academic Service Center (CASC) offer guidance for both student and research careers. Although UniBw M does not provide a public job portal like LMU, students can benefit from structured support networks and connections with companies adjacent to the campus such as Siemens, Bosch, and others. Civilian students also access general career guidance via affiliated Munich University networks.
The below information is required while
completing the university application :
Eligibility & Qualifications
For military officer candidates, admission begins with selection via the Bundeswehr Assessment Center (ACFüKrBw) in Cologne, followed by a physical and aptitude evaluation. Candidates must hold German Abitur or equivalent and commit to around 13 years of service including study Obligations.
For civilian applicants, entry is available under limited capacity and typically via partnerships with industries or federal agencies. Required is a university entrance qualification recognized under Bavarian law.
Language Proficiency
German-language programmes: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency (e.g. DSH, TestDaF) if courses are taught in German.
English-language tracks, such as select postgraduate programmes (e.g., International Security, Cyber Security), require CEFR B2 or equivalent.
Application Documents & Process
Submit an application via UniBw?M’s portal or partner authority (if civilian route). For military candidates, the university enrols them post-selection via the Bundeswehr. Civilian applicants must submit transcripts, certificates, language proof, and may undergo interviews.
Know moreWhile formal “campus recruitment” aligns with military commissioning, civilian students benefit from research-linked internships and recruitment via partnerships with industry, security agencies (e.g. BfV, BND), and corporate sponsors. Many civilian students are funded by companies like Siemens or Daimler in exchange for internships and employment.
