Westmont College is a private Christian liberal arts college located in Montecito, California.

 Westmont College History

  Ruth Kerr, the landlord and CEO of Kerr Glass Manufacturing Company, founded the Bible Missionary Institute in 1937 on the former Westlake School for Girls campus near Downtown Los Angeles. It was renamed Western Bible College in 1939. During these early years, Kerr and the other founders decided that a liberal arts curriculum would be the best way to steer the school. Dr. Wallace Emerson, the school's first president, renamed it Westmont College in 1940, after a college in the west and mountains.

Westmont College has a student/faculty ratio of 12 to one, with 96 percent of tenured and tenure-track faculty holding terminal degrees. A typical class size is 18 students. The students come from 25 different states, 11 different countries, and 33 different Christian denominations. The graduation rate after four years is 87 percent. Off-campus programmes are an important part of the Westmont experience, with more than 60% of students taking part in one at some point during their studies. Westmont College has a variety of off-campus programmes. The Europe semester, England semester, Westmont in Mexico, Westmont in Istanbul, and the San Francisco Urban programme are all run by faculty members.

Westmont was ranked 236th out of 660 best private and public colleges and universities in America by Forbes in 2016. The Templeton Foundation named Westmont College one of the top 100 colleges in the country for character development. Westmont College's commitments include increasing the diversity of its student body, faculty, and staff; promoting justice through righteousness and equity in its programmes and community; and becoming a more reconciling and unified community.

Westmont College Campuses

 The Westmont College campus is located a few miles east of Santa Barbara on US Route 101. Santa Barbara is located on the central California coast, approximately 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 330 miles south of San Francisco. The Westmont College campus itself is located in the Montecito hills and encompasses 110 acres (45 ha) of hills, gardens, and trees. A small creek runs through campus, which is frequently dry during the summer and autumn months and usually full during the rainy spring months. In El Nio years, it has even flooded campus buildings.

  Roger John Voskuyl Library is a Westmont College library. Westmont College's Roger John Voskuyl Library houses over 150,000 books, music scores, and media, as well as over 100 databases and 30,000 online and print journals. The Westmont College library was built in 1968 and is named after Westmont College's third president. The Westmont College library, which was renovated in 2010, includes a Learning Commons, group study rooms, popular treadmill walking stations, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

Westmont College Housing services

        The on-campus residence hall at Westmont College provides housing services. There are six on-campus dorms and one off-campus residence hall on the campus. Page Hall and Clark Hall, located at the upper corners of campus, are the two freshman dorms. Armington Hall, which houses the most students on campus, is located at the lowest point on campus. Emerson Hall (formerly New Dorm and Everest) is located at the top of campus and features ocean views from many of its rooms. Emerson Hall is home to first-year, transfer, and second-year students. Van Kampen Hall, in the heart of campus, was renovated and modernised in the summer of 2006.

Montecito is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Barbara County, California. Montecito is located on California's Central Coast, between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and had a population of 8,638 in 2020. Because of its concentration of prominent residents, Montecito is best known as a "celebrity enclave."

    The residential life at Westmont College is full of learning adventures and happy, safe journeys. Full-time students must live in on-campus residence halls unless they have secured a spot at the off-campus Ocean View apartments or have received Housing Office approval to live off-campus as a local commuter in a non-Westmont property. Westmont College's Dining Commons caters to a wide range of dietary needs, including food allergies/intolerances and chronic health conditions. The standard meal plan options can meet almost all students' dietary needs. Exemptions are granted on a case-by-case basis to students with documented medical conditions.
