California State University, Sacramento
Sacramento State University which is also known as California State University, Sacramento (CSUS, Sacramento State, or simply Sac State) is a public university located in Sacramento, California.
California State University, Sacramento History
Efforts to establish a four-year university in Sacramento date back to the 1920s, but legislation has repeatedly failed. Local supporters accused Bay Area legislators of "pork barrel politics" in their attempt to monopolize higher education. Sacramento State was formally established in 1947 as a result of legislation introduced by State Senator Earl D. Desmond, who used hardball tactics to get it done, convincing the Senate's finance committee to withhold funding for the University of California until he had a commitment. Desmond's 11 children and grandchildren eventually graduated from college. Sacramento State College was founded on September 22, 1947, during a period of high demand for higher education following World War II, and shared space with Sacramento Junior College.
