Central Washington University History

Central Washington University’s history started in the year 1891 as the Washington State Normal School. It was established with the purpose of training and educating teachers. Washington Legislature authorized a name change in 1937 to Central Washington College of Education. In the year 1977, it was renamed Central Washington University.
