Aleppo University History

Aleppo University is a public university in Aleppo, Syria. After Damascus University, it is the second largest university in Syria. What was to become Aleppo University consisted of an engineering faculty in Aleppo opened in 1946 and affiliated to what is now Damascus University (Syrian University at the time).

Aleppo University Programs, Courses and Schools

There are 25 faculties with 152 departments at Aleppo University. In the following decades, the University grew rapidly, forming respected programs in engineering, science, and literature, as well as a strong focus on languages, offering courses in German, Russian, French, and English. Two higher institutes based in Aleppo operate at the university: Higher Institute of the History of Arabic Science founded in 1976: History of Applied sciences, History of Medical Sciences, History of Basic Sciences. The Higher Language Institute was founded in 2003. The university has 12 technical intermediate institutes.

Aleppo University Campuses

The university is home to one of Syria's largest libraries with more than 1.5 million units. There are also 17 academic centres, a publishing and printing house, and 20 campus units designated to host over 12,000 students. The university periodically publishes its scientific journal called Aleppo Research University. The university announced on 6 February 2010 the opening of its Radio & TV Centre, the first of its kind among Syrian universities and the third in the Middle East.
