Cochin University of Science and Technology History

Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kochi, Kerala, India is a government-owned autonomous university of science and technology. Originally known as Cochin University, the university came into being in 1971 through an act by the Kerala Legislature resulting from a campaign for state postgraduate education. It was reorganized in February 1986 at the University of Science and Technology of Cochin (CUSAT).

CUSAT currently has 29 study and research departments offering graduate and postgraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines in the fields of Engineering, Science, Technology, Humanities, Law & Management. The University has academic connections and exchange programs across the globe with several institutions. CUSAT is structured into nine faculties: Science, Technology, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences, Medical Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences

The 180-acre campus consists of the Administrative Bureau, Central Library, Computer Center, Departments, Laboratories, Workshops, School of Engineering, Kunjali Marakkar Marine Engineering School, School of Management Studies, School of Legal Studies, Canteens, Guest House, Hostels and Playgrounds. For CUSAT students and academics, the computerized Central Library is a source of information. The Computer Center provides students with free internet access. The campus hosts department buildings. Cochin University of Science and Technology Achievements

CUSAT ranked 801 - 1000 worldwide in the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 251 - 300 in Asia. While considering an endowment of less than $ 0.5 million, CUSAT shows a way beyond excellence while compared to other universities worldwide. Under the UGC - SAP program, the school obtained a grant of Rs.75 lakhs under the FIST program and Rs.37 lakhs. The School conducted a study on Climate Resilience Strategies Urban Governance Service: Cochin Assessment, India sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Development Studies Institute, Sussex University, UK.
