IIT Mumbai Background
Located at Powai, Mumbai, India IIT Mumbai is a Public Engineering college which was established in 1958. In 1961 the Parliament of India declared IITs as “Institutes of National Importance” creating awareness on technical education.
IIT Mumbai Programs and Courses
IIT Mumbai has a total of 15 Academic Departments, 4 Inter-disciplinary programs, 01 schools of excellence and 19 multi-disciplinary centres. It has a comprehensive graduate program providing doctoral degrees in Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Technology. Some of the programs include Aerospace Engineering, Biosciences & Bioengineering & Chemical Engineering. IIT Mumbai also offers programs in climate studies, Educational Technology and systems & Control Engineering.
IIT Mumbai Campus
The university campus is located at Powai and comprises of the main building, departmental annexes and auditorium. Most of the student hostels are also located on the campus. It has a huge green cover due to its proximity to a National Park. It is well connected to the city centre via public transport. The campus houses more than 6000 people including professors, students and non-academic staff. Currently, it has 3400 undergraduate students. The undergraduate students are selected through Joint Entrance Examination and the graduate students go through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
IIT Mumbai Ranking and Achievements
IIT Mumbai is 2nd among engineering colleges in India. It is ranked 179th in QS world ranking and is placed 34th in Asia. It also undertakes industry-sponsored research and is funded by various national agencies. Many of the projects are of national importance and has an impact on the common man. The university is known for Indigenous research and development activities in orthopaedic reconstruction systems has major labs for robotics, biotechnology, microelectronics, telematics, remote sensing and aerodynamics.
