Nara Institute of Science and Technology History
Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) is a Japanese national university placed in Kansai Science town, a border region between National Archives and Records Administration, Osaka, and Kyoto. Founded in 1991, NAIST consisted of graduate faculties in 3 integrated areas: informatics, biological sciences, and materials science. In 2018, NAIST underwent Associate in Nursing structure transformation to continue research in these areas whereas promoting knowledge base analysis and education across ancient fields.

Nara Institute of Science and Technology offers seven graduate programs, it's any specialized in research information, biological and material sciences; knowledge base areas of data, biological and material sciences; and interdisciplinary challenges in data science merging in particular areas. The University offers a master’s degree and doctorate degree. The University has 3 graduate schools which include Graduate School of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Information Science and Centers and facilities. The University also has more than 374 administrative staff and 1,043 postgraduate students.

NAIST's campus is located in a pleasant rural area within historic Nara Prefecture, with the nearest station only 40 minutes by train from the major cities of Osaka and Kyoto. The Campus also has well facilities for students, have a library, cafeteria, Health Care Center, University Union, and even guesthouse. International students have priority within the allocation of on-campus dormitory accommodations, that offers 24-hour access to NAIST's on-line library and educational resources via local area network affiliation.

Nara Institute of Science and Technology, professor Shinya Yamanaka was awarded Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in the year 2012.
The University has done notable research which is ARToolKit was originally developed by Hirokazu Kato of independent agency Institute of Science and Technology in 1999 and was free by the University of Washington HIT science laboratory. In 2001 ARToolWorks was incorporated, and v1.0 of the ASCII text file version of ARToolKit was free through the HIT science laboratory. ARToolKit was one among the primary AR SDKs for mobile, seen running initially on Symbian in 2005, then iOS with the iPhone 3G in 2008, and at last automaton as early as 2010 with a professional version by ARToolWorks later in 2011.

NAIST was evaluated as passing superior particularly regarding research levels. (One of five establishments from the eighty-six national universities). In 2010, NAIST hierarchic initial overall among the eighty-six Japanese national universities by the Japanese government in its first-ever six-year (2005-2010) assessment of national university standards and achievements. NAIST ranked first in “Research” and “Education” among all national universities in Japan published in the weekly magazine “Toyo Keizai”. It also ranked first in Grants in Aid for scientific research.
