Shivaji University History

Shivaji University, is a state university located in Kolhapur, India. It was established in 1962 by Sarvepalli Radhakrishan, the president of India. Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai assist in establishing this university. It is a residential teaching-cum- affiliated university by the Kolapur, Sangli and Satara districts come under its authority with 279 affiliated colleges and known institutes.

Shivaji University, compromise 34 departments and 4 faculties offering a wide range of bachelor’s degrees. The university also offers a range of postgraduate degrees, master’s degrees, applied degrees, diplomas, and certificate courses.

Shivaji University has its campus located in the city of Kolhapur. The university is self-sufficient in water, which is stored on campus during rainy season. The campus is also called as biodiversity rich campus.

Barrister Balalsaheb Khardekar Library is one of the main university libraries in southern Maharashtra. The library has 3.1 lakhs printed documents and it subscribes 298 national and international journals.

The university recently signed MoU with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for research in Material Science.
