University of the West Indies History                                           

University of the West Indies also known as UWI is a university system serving the seventeen countries of the Caribbean. The university was established in 1948 after the recommendation from Asquith Commission and was known as University College of the West Indies. The institute granted University of London degrees until it was granted university status in 1962.

University of the West Indies is based across four campuses and not all the campuses house all the faculties. The university offers a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across multiple faculties.

University of the West Indies offers subjects such as Humanities, Education, Law, Medical Sciences, Health Sciences, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Sports, Behavioral Sciences, Management, and Engineering to name a few.

University of the West Indies is based across four physical campuses located at Mona in Jamaica, Cave Hill in Barbados, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, and Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda. The university also has an open campus which caters to 17 Caribbean nations.

University of the West Indies offers a range of services to students such as laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, computer labs, and library with access to books, journals, periodicals, and special collections. The university also comprises of students union, associations, and clubs in addition to numerous recreational and sports facilities.

University of the West Indies is ranked amongst top 600 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. The university is amongst top 5% universities in the world and ranks 32nd in Latin American rankings.
