University Of Delhi History

The University of Delhi, is a public central university which is also known as Delhi University, is situated in New Delhi, India. It was established in 1922.  The University was to be named Prince Charles University, but the counselor to the Chief Commissioner of Delhi and founder of Ramjas College Rai Kedarnath argued that if the university should fail, that would certainly provoke the Prince. The university's first Vice-Chancellor was Hari Singh Gourfrom. At that time there were only four colleges existed in Delhi.

The University of Delhi comprises of 16 faculties and 86 departments. It also has 77 affiliated colleges and 5 other institutes. There are 240 courses available in the university of Delhi for Undergraduate and Postgraduate. The Undergraduate has 83 courses and Postgraduate has 153 courses.

University Of Delhi Campuses

There are 77 colleges and 16 faculties affiliated to the University of Delhi, these colleges are spread across Delhi. There are two main campuses of the University known as North Campus and South Campus. North Campus hosts the three founding colleges of the university and the South Campus consists of 19 colleges.

University Of Delhi Achievements and USP

Delhi University’s chemistry, geology, zoology, sociology and history departments have been awarded the status of Centres of Advanced Studies. These Centres of Advanced Studies have recognized to be a centres of excellence in teaching and research in their respective areas. Also, there are a number of university's departments which are also receiving awards under the Special Assistance Programme of the University Grants Commission in appreciation of their outstanding academic work. Delhi University is one of the most desired institutions of higher education in India. The University also has one of the highest publication counts among Indian universities.
