University of Peradeniya History

University of Peradeniya is a Sri Lankan higher education establishment located in Peradeniya. The university was established in 1942 as University of Ceylon and adopted its present name in 1978. The university has ever since grown to enrol over 11000 undergraduate and graduate students.

University of Peradeniya Programs, Courses, and Schools

University of Peradeniya comprises of 8 faculties which are further subdivided into 72 academic departments in addition to 2 postgraduate institutions and 6 research centers. The university offers programs in Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry, Allied Health Sciences, and Law.

University of Peradeniya also offers programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Agriculture Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, and Natural Sciences.

University of Peradeniya Campuses

University of Peradeniya has a suburban campus spread over an area of 700 hectares in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The university campus comprises of vast expanses of green cover flanked by a number of buildings which house the university offices, faculties, student services, and halls of residence and dormitories for over 5000 students.

University of Peradeniya offers facilities such as modern teaching spaces, laboratories, teaching hospitals, medical and health facilities, and computer laboratories. The university library comprises of over 300000 items in addition to some rare manuscript collections.

University of Peradeniya is ranked amongst top 500 institutions globally in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. The university is also ranked 69th in the Asia University Rankings 2020 published by Times Higher Education.

University of Peradeniya is also ranked amongst top 400 universities globally in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020. QS Top universities ranks the university amongst top 1000 in the world and 221st in the Asian University rankings.

University of Peradeniya is a very selective institution and has an acceptance rate of just 10 to 20%. The university also boasts of a low student to faculty ratio of 11.5:1 and offers a number of scholarships and tuition fee assistance programs for both international and domestic students.

University of Peradeniya also partners with a number of universities including University of California Davis, Carnegie Mellon University, University ofAberdeen, Lund University, University of Gottingen, and University of Ottawa to offer student exchange programs.
