Amirkabir University of Technology History

The Amirkabir University of Technology also called AUT is a public research university based in Tehran, Iran. The university was established in 1928 as Standard Academy which was further developed by Habib Nafisi in 1956 and Dr. Mohammad Ali Mojtahedi as Tehran Polytechnic eventually adopting the current name later.

Amirkabir University of Technology constitutes of 16 departments offering courses and programs in Robotics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering and Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Marine Technology, Mathematics and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy Engineering, Energy Engineering and Physics, Polymer and Color Engineering, Textile Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.  

The Amirkabir University of Technology is commonly referred to as Mother of Engineering universities in Iran due to its reputation. Admission to the engineering courses is via an entrance test called Konkour and the acceptance rate is just 1%, making the admission process highly selective and competitive.

Amirkabir University of Technology Campuses

The Amirkabir University of Technology has 4 campuses – Tehran, Mahshahr, Bandar Abbas, and Garmsar. The Tehran campus is based in the city centre close to the public transportation network. Mahshahr and Bandar Abbas campuses work in collaboration with the local petroleum and marine industries respectively. Garmsar campus collaborates with the primary campus in Tehran. 

The Amirkabir University of Technology houses a Library and Document Centre in Tehran campus which is regarded as the largest and richest academic libraries in the technical and engineering field in the region comprising of over 5 million books. The university also offers green spaces, leisure and recreational facilities, and sports activities to its students.

The Amirkabir University of Technology is renowned for its research and innovation. It is awarded Center of Excellence by Iran's Ministry of Science and Technology in the fields of Biomechanics, Power Systems, Radiocommunication systems (RACE) and Thermoelasticity. Moreover, the university is extensively funded by the Iranian Government and Industrial Companies.

The Amirkabir University of Technology publishes Amirkabir Journal of Science and Technology, a scientific journal aimed at publishing research achievements of academic researchers in engineering and sciences.
