Jamia Hamdard History

Jamia Hamdard came into beginning before independent India as a small Unani (Perso-Arabic traditional medicine) Clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed – a well-known practitioner of Unani System of Medicine, in Hamdard Nagar, New Delhi. Later, it was formally inaugurated by former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 1, 1989. It is a government-funded university.

Jamia Hamdard Programs, Courses, and Schools

Jamia Hamdard constitutes of 8 schools and 2 institutes offering various Diploma undergraduate postgraduate and research programs for students. The university provides a wide range of programs in both Modern and Traditional Medicine.

Jamia Hamdard also offers programs in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy and Post Graduate Diploma in Preventive Cardiology. The university conducts courses and programs ranging from Rehabilitation Sciences, Community Medicine, Business Administration, Computer Applications, Environmental Monitoring, and Impact Assessment.

Jamia Hamdard Campuses

Jamia Hamdard has a 92 acres widespread environmental friendly campus which also provides residential facilities in and outside the campus for the students. The campus has separate residences for boys and girls. There are nine residential blocks in the campus which includes a common room, reading room, dining hall, and a visitors’ room. There are five laboratories and a computer centre on-campus.

Jamia Hamdard organizes events within and outside the campus which are taken care of by the students of the respective associations. Indoor and outdoor activities are available for students. The library at the University has 11900 books, 63 journals, and 30 international journals.

Jamia Hamdard Achievements

Jamia Hamdard is awarded an 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India. In the 2019 NIRF, it secured the first rank among all the pharmacy institutions of India.

Jamia Hamdard students have achieved a lot of accolades in the field of medicine and pharmacy. One of the students secured 2nd rank in All India Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test 2019.
