National Cheng Kung University Background:
National Cheng Kung University also known as NCKU is a public university which was established in the year 1931 and is located in Tainan, Taiwan. National Cheng Kung University was originally established under Japanese government in January 1931 as the Tainan Technical College. In 1971, the university became a national university and was renamed to National Cheng Kung University.

National Cheng Kung University comprises eight colleges consisting of numerous programs; College of Liberal Arts, College of Sciences, College of Management, College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, College of Social Sciences, College of Planning & Design, College of Bioscience & Biotechnology, and the college of medicine. The university also consists of Cross College Elite Program, Center for General Education, and Progressive Education programs. The university is best known for its engineering, computer science, medicine, and planning and design.

National Cheng Kung University has 11 campuses: An-Nan, Cheng-Kung, Cheng-Xin, Ching-Yeh, Dong Ning, Dou-Liou, Kuang-Fu, Kuei-Jen, Li-Hsing, Sheng-Li, and Tzu-Chiang. The university comprises many research centers and institutes some of them are; Center for Micro/Nano Science and Technology, Center of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Center for Gene Regulation and Signal, Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, The Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy, Medical Device Innovation Center, Earth Dynamic System Research Center, Cardiovascular Research Center, and several others. 

National Cheng Kung University Achievements:
National Cheng Kung University is the sole member from Taiwan in Worldwide Universities Network. In 2005, NCKU was chosen by the Ministry of Education (Taiwan) as one of the seven universities in Taiwan for the Aim for the Top University Project which is similar to Top Global University Project in Japan and Universities of Excellence in Germany. Starting from 2006, because of its excellent academic performance and research potential, the Ministry of Education (Taiwan)has offered NCKU NT$1.7 billion annually for five consecutive years, which is the second highest amount received among the universities in the project.
