Oslo Metropolitan University

Oslo Metropolitan University was founded in 2018. It is a state university located in Oslo and Akershus in Norway. It was formed after the merger of many former vocational colleges in the Greater Oslo Region.

University History

The Oslo Metropolitan University was established on 12 January 2018. It is the second youngest university in Norway. In 2014 and 2016 the university college merged with four of Norway's largest social science research institutes. On 12 January 2018, the King-in-Council granted university status to Oslo Metropolitan University.

Pilestredet campus-

Oslo Metropolitan University’s Pilestredet campus is the most urban university campus in Norway. The campus is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Kjeller campus-

Steps to obtain a study permit/ visa- 

  • The fee for a visa application is 5300 NOK. You will need to pay this online by Visa or Mastercard when you are ready to apply. 
  • A study permit application requires that you can financially support yourself for the duration of your studies in Norway. 
  • The Immigration Authorities (UDI) require documentation of the amount of NOK 116 369 per year, or NOK 58 184 per semester (Only applicable for exchange students who are here for one semester), which you will use to pay your rent and other expenses while living in Stavanger.
  •  This amount must be documented in one of the following ways: - A confirmation from the Oslo Metropolitan University that you have deposited the amount in the university student account This method is recommended. 
  • Please see the information here: www.uis.no/newstudents under “Documentation of financing for students applying for study permit in Norway” 
  • Documentation of scholarships such as Erasmus+ or NORPART, covering the amount - A bank statement from your Norwegian bank As an international student, this is generally not an option for you.
  •  Log on to http://www.udi.no/en/ and click on “want to apply”. You will be asked to enter your citizenship and select “Study permit”. 
  • Answer the questions given until you are asked to fill in an application form in the Application Portal. Once you are registered as a user, you will need to log in to begin the application. 
  • Here you may encounter some tricky questions as stated below: Application to be addressed to If you are applying from Norway, select Sør-Vest police district - Immigration Office, Stavanger. 
  • If applying from outside of Norway, choose your closest Norwegian embassy or consulate. In some countries, Denmark and Norway share a consulate so you may also be able to apply from a Danish embassy or consulate.
