SASTRA University History

SASTRA University was established in the year 1984. It is a deemed-to-be university which is situated in Tamil Nadu in India. It was founded as the Shanmugha College of Engineering but received the university recognition in 2001. It became the first institute to receive university status in Tamil Nadu.

SASTRA University Programs, Courses and Schools 

SASTRA University comprises of thirteen academic schools delivering education in around eight fields of study. It offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. Other courses for which students can apply include research, study abroad, online learning, integrated programs and training sessions.

Faculties recruited in the university are skilled and provides more of experimental knowledge to the students. Students receive internship offers, both from India and outside the country. Placements are guaranteed to the students at the end of their academic programs from the renowned companies.

SASTRA University Campuses

SASTRA University has a 168 acres rural campus with eco-friendly and secure environment. Students have amenities like cafeteria, temple, auditorium, wifi access, book store, postal services, transportation, parking facilities, recreational area, healthcare facilities, pool, stadium, indoor courts, gym and innovation labs. There are various student clubs related to various fields of technicality and cultural activities. Festivals and cultural fests are organised throughout the year in the campus.

Saraswathi Sadan is the central library of the university with modern and digital infrastructure. It is stocked with books, magazines, journals, guides, periodicals, publications, catalogues and archives. Databases, audio-visual rooms, CDs, tutorials, help desk, internet access and tutorials are available.

SASTRA University Achievements and USP

SASTRA University has been ranked by NIRF as 33rd among the engineering colleges of India, 36th among the universities and 54th in overall ranking in the country. The Times Higher Education has ranked among top 350 Asian universities. It comes among top 300 universities according to QS BRICS rankings and among top 400 Asian universities according to QS ASIA. It is internationally recognised university.

University offers financial assistance to the students by awarding them with scholarships and grants. Students have to meet the set criteria by the university and apply for these.
