Sohar University History

Sohar University is Oman’s first private university located in Sohar. The university was established in 1998 as Sohar College for Applied Sciences subsequently conferred university status in the year 2001 by Oman Ministry of Higher Education. At the time of its inception, the college was a partner with University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, United Kingdom.

Sohar University Programs, Courses, and Schools

Sohar University teaches most of its degree and diploma programs in English but some courses are delivered in Arabic. The university has a high acceptance rate but the General Foundations Program is compulsory for all students to enhance their English language, Mathematics, and Computer skills before starting a degree program, except Law students.

Sohar University offers numerous courses and programs in the fields of Business Administration, Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Engineering, Education, Arts, English, and Law.

Sohar University’s campus is located in the city of Sohar, which is one of the fastest growing cities in Oman. The university invested heavily in developing a world-class campus which is designed by renowned Noel Robinson Architects of Queensland, Australia.

Sohar University has developed this campus to offer various facilities like a new library, faculty buildings of Engineering, Business, Health Sciences, and Humanities, multi-purpose lecture theatres, graduation hall, sporting facilities, and residences for postgraduate students.

Sohar University has a high graduate employment rate and ranks highly in post-study employability. In fact, 85% of engineering graduates were employed in prestigious institutions post the completion of their degree.
