University of Basrah History

University of Basrah was established in the year 1964. It is a public university which is situated in Basra in Iraq. It was initially affiliated with University of Baghdad but in the same year, it became an independent university. It opened and started studies in four colleges in the same year.

University of Basrah Programs, Courses and Schools  

University of Basrah is organised into 20 academic colleges and research centres. It offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in three disciplines of study. Other courses students can opt for include research, language, continuing education and higher diploma course.

Most of the faculties hold doctorate in their area of study and guide the students for their life goals. Other learning options like e-learning and distance education are also available. There is a women’s college. The university is known for the research and its publications.

University of Basrah Campuses

University of Basrah has four campuses with urban infrastructure and each campus having different academic departments. Other facilities available are cafeteria, museum, internet services, athletic courts, stadium, fitness centre, recreational area, academic buildings and research centres. Student clubs and unions organises various events and activities. Student media includes journals and magazines.

Central Library is the main and digital library with the huge collection of books, magazines, research guides, periodicals, articles, publications, archives and e-books. Databases, electronic resources, computer systems, training rooms and internet services are available.

University of Basrah Achievements and USP

University of Basrah was ranked 2nd in Iraq and among top 3000 universities of the world in 2018 by University Ranking by Academic Performance. It is also among the top 100 best arab region universities by the U.S. News and World Report. It is also ranked among the top 100 universities for its courses in engineering and physics and astronomy.

Scholarships and other financial aids are offered to the students. These are both government and private aids. Students can apply for these.
