Cadiz University History

Cadiz University, commonly referred to as UCA, is a public university located in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain, known for its curricula of medicine and marine sciences. Established in 1979, it has the Latin motto Non Plus Ultra. The origins of the University lie with the "Colegio de Pilotos de Los Mares de Levante y Poniente" in the 15th century. Its Faculty of Medicine traces its foundation to the Royal Naval College of Surgery in 1748, which was Europe's first school to combine medicine and surgery.

Cadiz University Programs, Courses and Schools

The University has over 18,000 students, 15 centres and 45 departments, employed by more than 1,500 lectures teaching on a total of 63-degree programs and 22 doctoral courses. 162 groups participate in programs for research, development and innovation, many of which are recognized in the fields of humanities, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, engineering and health sciences. The University of Cadiz has outstanding libraries, ranked among the best in the country and with the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ANECA) seal of quality, and offers services that include courses offered by the Modern Languages Centre, a year-round intensive program of cultural events, A wide range of sports and opportunities to participate in solidarity activities and volunteering.

Cadiz University Programs Campuses

UCA consists of four campuses. The main campus of Cádiz is located in the old town, next to the beach of Caleta and Genovese Park, arranged in a series of picturesque narrow streets. This campus houses socio - humanistic and health studies departments. It also includes the engineering college, the department of computer studies and the services of central administration. The Puerto Real campus houses the science and technology centres of the university, including the marine, nautical and radio - electronic engineering school; the educational sciences faculty; and the marine and environmental sciences faculty. The Jerez campus is dedicated primarily to social and legal studies and also has a nursing study hall. Here, together with the headquarters of the new University Institute for Research in Sustainable Social Development (known as INDESS), are based two schools, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences. Finally, there is the Campus of Algeciras Bay, facing the Gibraltar Strait. Nursing, business administration and management, law, labour relations and human resources, as well as early childhood education and primary education, are among the courses taught here.
