University of Calcutta History

The University of Calcutta colloquially known as Calcutta University and CU is an Indian higher education institution located in Kolkata earlier known as Calcutta in West Bengal. The university was established under the aegis of British Government in India in 1857 and currently enrols over 22500 students.

The University of Calcutta is based across 14 campuses in the city of Kolkata earlier known as Calcutta in West Bengal, India. The university’s primary campus is located in College Street which houses the university’s administrative headquarters. Rest of the campuses are scattered across the city suburbs and offer a range of facilities for students.

The University of Calcutta offers facilities such as classrooms and lecture halls, auditoriums, social clubs, cultural societies, rowing club, and libraries.
