Silliman University History

Silliman University also commonly known as SU is a private higher education establishment located in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental province in Philippines. The university was founded as Silliman Institute in 1901 as an American and Protestant institution and currently enrols over 11000 students.

Silliman University offers a range of programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in a wide range of subjects. Some of the subjects include Agribusiness, Animal Sciences, Anthropology, Biology, Sociology, Physics, Social Work, Foreign Languages, and Filipino.

Silliman University also offers programs in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Teacher Education, Journalism, Physical Education, and Nursing to name a few.

Silliman University has an urban campus spread over an area of 62 hectares in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental in Philippines. The university campus is home to a number of historical era buildings which house all the faculties and offices in addition to a church which was built in the 1940s.

Silliman University also comprises of an on campus zoo in addition to libraries, classrooms, lecture halls, and research centres. The university campus also comprises of six museums in total and amenities such as shops, cafe, doing options, and bookstore.

Silliman University is ranked 4th in the country by Commission on Higher Education of Philippines. The university’s program in nursing was also ranked 1st in the country in addition to Accountancy and Mechanical Engineering programs being ranked 2nd nationally.

Silliman University is also ranked amongst top 150 universities in Asia in the Asian university rankings published by QS Top Universities. The university was also ranked high for its nursing program.
