Universidad de Cantabria History

Universidad de Cantabria was established in 1972 and is a non - profit public higher education institution located in the large town of Santander, Cantabria. The University of Cantabria (UNICAN) is a large institution of coeducational higher education. Universidad de Cantabria (UNICAN) offers courses and programs in several fields of study that lead to officially recognized degrees of higher education such as bachelor's degrees.

The University of Cantabria is divided into 15 schools and faculties. Faculty of Sciences Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, Faculty of Law, International Center for Higher Spanish Studies, Altamira School of Tourism, Physiotherapy School of Gimbernat - Cantabria, Teacher Training School, Industrial Engineering and Telecommunications School, Nautical Studies School, Nursing School, Technical Engineering School, Environmental Engineering Teaching Unit.

The diffusion of knowledge and culture is one of the priorities of the University of Cantabria. The campus hosts a variety of different exhibitions, congresses, courses, lectures and concerts throughout the year, making the institution one of the cities and surrounding cultural focal points.  The university has two exhibition areas: the University Room, located in the Nautical Studies School under the Planetarium Dome, and the Exhibition Room at the University Hall, in the city centre. Over the course of the year, the extracurricular classrooms of the University organize numerous activities related to theatre, music, photography, cultural heritage, theology, literature, cinema, women's studies, international cooperation and general interest scientific issues. The University Campus also provides an ideal opportunity through university associations to make life dynamic. The University Alumni Association enables students to maintain forged on - campus friendships and maintain contact with the entity, thus contributing to their social and cultural life.

The University of Cantabria first appeared in the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2013 in the range of 151-200 best universities in the world in the field of Physics.
