The University of Puerto Rico is a public university of Puerto Rico is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The University was established in the year 1903 by Jorge Harddock Acevedo.

The University of Puerto Rico offers 452 degree-leading and 242 non-degree-leading programs (200 active transfers, 41 residences in Medicine and Dental Medicine and one pre-veterinary), for a total of 694 active offers. Among the offers offered, 119 are master's level, 40 are doctoral level (including six professional first level) and 15 are certified. A sub graduate level offers 239 baccalaureate and 38 associate degrees. The UPR offers around 100 unique academic programs in the offer of higher education in Puerto Rico. Also, the UPR has among its unique programs, offers aimed at preparing professionals and researchers in the area of health. The University has more than 5,300 academic staff and 14,177 administrative staff including 58,000 students.

The University of Puerto Rico at Cayey offers courses in various field including Liberal Arts. The University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez is the second-largest campus in the University of Puerto Rico which offers various programs. The University of Puerto Rico at Utuado offers agricultural technologies studies on the campus.

The University of Puerto Rico, On October 15, 2010, the university was awarded over $25 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support research in nanotechnology. The organization among the University of Puerto RICO compact is named Puerto RICO EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research). Since its creation twenty-four years ago, Puerto RICO EPSCoR has received over $180 million from National Science Foundation, NASA, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
