University of Sri Jayewardenepura was established in 1958 and is located in Nugegoda, Sri Lanka. It evolved out of the Vidyodaya Privena a Buddhist Educational Centre that was founded in 1873. The intention was to have a center for oriental learning. This initial idea was then changed with the change in Government. The new idea was to promote national languages and culture. Following this, the University has only seen growth and development.
